This past year, Hurricane Florence and tropical storm Michael devastated parts of North Carolina and surrounding states, with many of our NC farmers and agritourism entrepreneurs facing years of recovery. One program designated to give support to agriculture losses includes the Hurricane Florence Agriculture Disaster Program. This bill grants the one-time assistance for applicants who experienced agricultural production loss–crops, livestock, and aquaculture–due to Florence and Michael.

This $240 bill was developed and administered by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) and appropriated by the North Carolina General Assembly. Since late January, NCDA&CS has processed 70% of the program’s applications and provided over $5 million in payments across the state’s disaster-declared counties.
